Course Structure

The course begins annually in October and lasts for 3 semesters. It consists of a taught stage (worth 60 ECTS credits) and of a project stage (worth 30 ECTS credits).

Thesis

- Engineering subjects: During the first semester, the students extend and deepen their knowledge in fundamental areas of Electrical and Optical Communications as well as in Advanced Signal Processing. During the second semester, the emphasis is different network technologies (Internet Protocols, Networks and Applications). A set of elective modules provide the opportunity to specialise according to personal career goals. - Master Thesis (and related lectures and seminars) -  The third semester is entirely dedicated to a major individual research project which leads to a master thesis. Projects with an industrial involvement and relevance are encouraged. The Thesis may be undertaken in the University’s laboratories or in collaboration with industrial partners or other institutions.

- Professional Practice & Scientific Methods: Introductory material material is delivered in block mode covering the main fields of studies and giving an overview of the main technological issues and trends in the field of Information and Communications Technologies. Scientific Work and Methods are also presented and practiced. Group work in the area of Intercultural Competence is a key element of our international master programme.

- Language classes (and practice) in German (or English for German speaking students) are aimed at stressing the importance of language skills for a successful international professional career. All lectures in our programme are in English but life is in German. It is important that students learn some German to increase their chances on the job market.

- Management subjects (Project and Strategic Management) are intended to familiarize students with management techniques commonly used to plan, organize and control projects.

Teaching comprises lecture modules, tutorials, and laboratory work. Throughout the first two semesters courses are fully supported by computing and laboratory work. Assessment is based on a mix of formal examinations, course work, various technical assignments and oral presentations. The assessment of the Master Thesis includes an oral examination.
