Innovation based on tradition – this is the motto of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen / University of Applied Sciences (formerly Fachhochschule Giessen-Friedberg) which was founded in 1971, comprising primarily engineering-based faculties. The historical predecessors of the Fachhochschule, the Schools of Engineering, date back into the late nineteenth century. Today, classical engineering disciplines (e.g. Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) are offered just as disciplines, that have developed out of the classical engineering courses (e.g. Energy Systems, Biotechnology, Information and Communication Engineering, Informatics). Teaching takes place in small groups and is uncompromisingly oriented towards future professional life. Study in Hessen

Currently, 8,500 students (6,000 students in Giessen, 2,500 in Friedberg) are enrolled in over 40 degree courses, taught by approximately 250 professors. More than 900 international students from over 80 different countries study in Giessen and Friedberg. In the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology departments in Giessen and Friedberg, a team of 40 professors, supported by other lecturers and laboratory engineers, currently supervise approximately 1,100 students.

Giessen is located in the middle of the State of Hessen, one hour north of Frankfurt/M. and is a student town with a population of roughly 76,000 inhabitants. Friedberg is a historic town with a population of approximately 27,000 inhabitants and a part of the pulsating and prosperous Rhine-Main region – a central European area, served by Frankfurt/Main International Airport. Many of Germany’s most romantic areas of natural beauty and historic significance are within easy reach. Map of location
